1988: In August, 50 007 'Sir Edward Elgar' simmers at Exeter St David's prior to departure with a service for Waterloo.

1990: On certain Saturdays during 1989/90, the 08.25 Leeds - Carlisle featured freight locomotives. Here, on 24 February 1990, class 25 no. 25 912 (D7672) 'TAMWORTH CASTLE' in a superb two tone green livery is captured at Shipley, piloting 47 422 which was providing train heating.

1995: At Bescot open day held in September, three examples of class 59, no. 59 001, 59 101 and 59 201 stand side by side for interesting comparison

1998: The afternoon Bristol - Plymouth mail vans is double headed past Langstone Rock near Dawlish Warren by 47 727 'Duke of Edinburgh's Award' and a classmate in August 1998

1998: For a period during 1998 it was common for Virgin to hire class 47s from Fragonset to cover for shortages. Here, 47 712, sporting original Fragonset all over black livery heads past Dawlish Warren with the afternoon Plymouth - Manchester service in August.

1984: An undientifed 'Hover' sweeps aong the sea wall at Teignmouth with a westbound express.

1981: On 21 July, in its final months of service, Deltic no. 55 008 'The Green Howards' stands at Doncaster with a Hull - King's Cross bound express. This scene hasn't changed that much in 27 years, just the traction and rolling stock and, of course, electrification.

1980: The last class 40 in BR green received a repaint in green and became a celebrity. No 40 106 stands gleaming at Knottingley during a 1980 open day, among the fleet of 47/3s which worked from the depot at the time.

1979: One of my earliest photos. On 10 February 1979, class 25 no. 25 027 stands at the signal at Burley in Wharfedale, having run up the branch to Ilkley. Just about everything in this scene has gone - the signal, the loco, the station has been rebuilt and the line electrified. The loco was withdrawn in 1983.

1979: On 30 March 1979, a pair of class 76s, no. 76 031 and 76 037 are seen stabled at Wath depot. The depot and all the railway infrastructure have now been completely removed from this location.

1979: On 15 December, withdrawn in June 1978, the body of class 76 no. 76 056 sits in a field alongside Reddish depot in Manchester.

1979: 5 April 1979, the final green liveried class 40, no 40 106 stands at Leeds with the lunchtime Nottingham - Carlisle service, running two hours late. Not much of this scene remains - the station has been rebuilt, electrification has been completed, even the tower block in the background has been redeveloped.

1981: In August, class 50 no 50 040 'Leviathan' heads away from Weston Super Mare station, bound for Plymouth.

1983: A pair of class 25s chug into Chester with a tanker train bound for Stanlow

1983: In July, the Isle of Wight class 05 shunter, D2554 is seen stabled at Ryde St John's Road.

1980: Sporting Finsbury Park white window surrounds, Deltic no. 55 003 'MELD' storms past Haymarket depot with the 05.50 King's Cross - Aberdeen service. Shot taken on 27 October.

1980: On 27 October, class 27 no.27 014 is seen stabled in the evening sunshine at Eastfield depot

1980: On 27 October, less than a year before withdrawal, Deltic no. 55 003 'MELD' is seen at Haymarket depot, where it had arrived for fuel after running low en route from York with an Aberdeen bound service.

1980: On 28 July and in corporate blue BR days, class 31 no. 31 181 and class 87 no. 87 032 are seen side by side at Birmingham New Street.

1980: On 28 July 1980, four months before it was named 'Josiah Wedgewood - Master Potter', no. 86 236 wears BR blue in the sunshine at Birmingham New Street.

1980: An unidentified 'Peak' hurries westbound at Brockhampton crossing, just north of Cheltenham. This shot is now virtually impossible as the location has become overgrown.

1980: July, 81 013 is seen stabled at the weat end of Birmingham New Street. This loco. was withdrawn in November 1989.

1980: On 22 July 1980, 86 204 'City of Carlisle' departs from Crewe with a southbound express.

1981: A classic scene now gone forever. Eight class 20s are lined up with locos of other classes at Tinsley depot, seen from the road vantage point across the yard in July.

1980: On 27 October, class 26 no. 26 031 is captured at the long demolished Eastfield depot.

1980: On 17 August, 33 106 is captured in the sunshine at Reading with a Portsmouth bound service. These services were booked for units during the week and class 33s and 4TC units at the weekends.

1980: On 18 August, sporting a bodyside white stripe, 'Peak' no. 45 121 is captured under the magnificent train shed at St Pancras. This loco survived until 1987.

1980: 55 003 'MELD' eases away from King's Cross with a Hull service on 18 August 1980.

1984: On 11 August, sole named class 46 no. 46 026 'THE LEICESTERSHIRE & DERBYSHIRE YEOMANRY' charges through Dawlish with 1M76 08.55SO Newquay - Manchester Piccadilly. The loco was withdrawn in November of that year.

1980: 33 064 with a short mail train at Reading, on 15 August 1980.

1980: On 15 August, 50 018 'Resolution' in BR blue livery heads for London at Reading.
